Wrath & Glory Update

At the recent GenCon Seminar, Wrath and Glory was discussed by lead designer, Russ Watson. Wrath and Glory promises to be a brand new system from the ground up, pulling inspiration from another Ulisses Product, “Torg Eternity”.

The system is to feature a “broad and inclusive” core rulebook. Russ wanted to ensure the idea that if you wanted to play as Space Marines hunting rogue aliens, you could. If you wanted to play as a group of new guardsman, you could. You can play as eldar, tau, orks; all options seem to be on the table. Balancing is important, but the promised campaigns will be assuming that you are all of a certain race/faction. It will be unlikely for groups to be intermingled, after all, death to the xenos scum! Combat will be brutal with hits that make you cringe. Ship to ship warfare and tank battles are built into the system; psychic powers will be “high risk, high reward”.

Campaigns will be introduced as trilogies that will be setup for month’s long games. Russ used the example of the Doom of the Eldar, which will be one of the first trilogies featuring everything Eldar. It will visit upon multiple Craftworlds and touch on the Dark Eldar and Harlequins. It is presumed that the party will be Eldar, and likely will force you into that role if you choose to play it. Ulisses really wants to include the major locations of the Imperium, from the Black Library to hunting a fallen Phoenix Lord to fighting in the pits of Commorragh with a crippled Grey Knight teaching the players about the Dark Eldar.

They want the trilogies to focus from a man on the street, “Dan Abnett-esque” feel, all the way to Primarch levels and fighting someone like Mortarion. Russ discussed the trilogies at times like they were a campaign setting, and other times like it was an adventure module path. Release schedule will be one campaign, with other products sprinkled throughout, before a new campaign is to start. There could be overlap, but the plan is to cover a great swath of the area of the Imperium Nihilus.

The product is aiming to launch next year with a new player box, including pregenerated characters and an adventure to get players right into the action. No word on Beta testing or the like, as of yet, though they promised more details on the website in the coming months.
